The Grainger-Hill Performing Arts Center is kicking off a year of performances for the community and extended neighbors.
Two series – Second Sunday Series and Performing Arts Series – will offer productions ranging from well-known local talent to Broadway performers.
The Second Sunday Series will launch at 3 p.m. Sunday with “Strings and Things.” This group of local students is taught by Mary McKeel, with organizational and supportive assistance from Beth Heath. The students from Kinston, Greenville and surrounding areas range in ages from 8 years old to high school age and attend a variety of area schools. The performance will include solos, duets and group numbers.
Five other concerts in this series are: “Two to Tango” Oct. 13, featuring standards, classics and originals by Samantha Holland; Gum Puddin Nov. 10, featuring country rock, American and traditional “Old Time” Bluegrass; Hymnprov Jan. 12, featuring Clay Whittington on piano; The Ray and Bobby Band Feb. 9; and Rick and Jane Vernon March 9.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door or $15 for reserved seating. Call 252-560-8515 or visit ghpac.com.
A tribute to Hank Williams and Patsy Cline will kick off the Performing Arts Series Sept. 27, launching an all-star series of top quality professional entertainment, ranging from Nashville greats to Broadway stars.
“Country Royalty: A Musical Tribute to Hank Williams, Patsy Cline,” will begin at 7 p.m. with Nashville singers Jason Petty and Carolyn Martin paying tribute to two of the most influential singers in country music history.
The lives of Williams and Cline were both fascinating and tragic. Along with a live five-piece band, Petty and Martin will take audiences back in time to when these country giants ruled the airwaves.
Other performances in this series will include: The Southern Fried Chicks Cage Free Comedy Tour Oct. 26; Sandra Fisher and Company presenting “Bringing Down the House,” featuring Motown, gospel and old school favorites Feb. 1; and Franco D’Ambrosio, who played the Phantom in “The Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway, singing Broadway tunes March 29.
Series tickets for the four concerts are $85, general admission; $130, reserved patron seating; $25 per ticket per concert (general admission); or $40 per concert (reserved seating).
