The Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity will crown one of four men its Young Man of the Year in its annual Beautillion Saturday at Rochelle Middle School.
Each year the Nu Iota Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. recognizes young men who have excelled in academics, leadership, and athletics from each of the county high schools. This year, four outstanding young men from Kinston High and North Lenoir and South Lenoir high schools will compete on poise, community participation and leadership, etiquette and world knowledge.
The 2013 Beaus are:
Martavus Grady; a junior at Kinston High School, Grady is the son of Wilma Shinita Grady of Kinston. He will be escorted by Cynthia Ogbaugo, a student at Lenoir County Early College and High School and the daughter of Damian and Justina Ogbaugo.
Terek Southerland is a senior at North Lenoir High School. Southerland is the son of Jennifer and Tyrone Morgan of La Grange, and is escorted by LaRachel Sutton, student at Lenoir Early College & High School and the daughter of Dortha Sutton and Lennon Davis.
Marquise Dixon is a senior at South Lenoir High School, Dixon is the son of Melvon Dixon of Kinston. Dixon is will be escorted by Jasmine Battle, a junior at South Lenoir High School and the daughter of Clarence and Evelyn Battle of Kinston.
Turon (Quan) Taylor is a senior at Kinston High School and the son of Kevin and LaToysha Taylor of Kinston. Taylor is being escorted by Erykah Cooke, a freshman at Kinston High School and the daughter of William Cooke and Shelia Fruster of Kinston.
The current Beautillion king will reign over the ceremonial dances. The current king is Rodney Aytch, a junior at Kinston High School. Aytch has worked on a platform of aiding in the eradication of homelessness and hunger. He has raised food and monetary donations to aid Mary’s Kitchen and has volunteered there on numerous occasions throughout the year. Aytch will be escorted by Keisha Best daughter of Bernard and Cuttora Williams of Grifton. Aytch is the son of Simona Waters of Kinston and Rodney Aytch of Greenville.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. and, tickets are available from any candidate or fraternity member. The price for admission is $10. For more information call 252-559-3628.
