The University of Mount Olive spring band concert is scheduled for April 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Olive Assembly Hall located at 207 Wooten St. in Mount Olive. The concert is free and open to the public. The recently renovated Assembly Hall is handicap accessible.
The UMO Concert Band is a combination of UMO students and community members. In addition to performing Blithe Bells, Tryptich and Pride, Promise and Progress, the concert program will include a beautiful arrangement of Five American Gospel Songs, by Luigi Zaninelli, and featuring vocalist Peggy Overton Vaughan. Vaughan, UMO voice instructor and conductor of Pitt Community College Choral, will join the UMO Concert Band as soloist in Five American Gospel Songs.
Earlier in the day the University of Mount Olive will hold its first-ever Honor Band. Students in grades 11 and 12 who are nominated by their band directors will join other advanced high school musicians from the area for an exciting day of high level music making, including rehearsals with UMO students, a concert of challenging and rewarding repertoire and a campus tour. The Honor Band participants will perform Canto, I Am and Short Prelude with Perspectives during the 7:30 p.m. concert.
