Fresh on the heels of a well received Valentine show, The Grainger Hill Performing Arts Center will present the second of four concerts to entice young and the young at heart, in its premier Second Sunday Series.
The ECU Student Jazz Ensemble, “Just Us Quartet,” will entertain at 3 p.m. March 10 with “Jazz on Stage” at the Community Council for the Arts. Quartet members include Marvin Thorne Jr., voice; Quincy Jones, jazz piano; and Stephen Scott, jazz set.
Upcoming “Second Sundays” concerts will include “Big Band Sounds” April 14, featuring Earle Abernethy, drums; Carol Ann Tucker, vocalist; Jimmy Aycock, piano; and Dave Adduddell, bass; and “Country, Light Rock and Bluegrass” May 12, featuring The Ray and Bobby Band.
Both of these concerts also will be at the arts center and, after expenses, all proceeds from the series will benefit Grainger Hill.
The Feb. 10 kick off performance, “Love is in the Air,” featured a collection of love songs by Shanda Maddox, director of activities at Bayview Nursing and Rehab in New Bern; Antuan Hawkins, Kinston-Lenoir County Public Library children’s librarian and frequent area performer; and Timothy Maddox, music instructor at Lenoir Community College.
Grainger Hill is a regional, cultural and civic center at 300 Park Ave. which serves audiences throughout a multi-county region. It is managed by the Preservation of the Grainger Complex Inc., a 501c (3) nonprofit corporation. Community support helps to maintain the historic center.
