Actor/singer/dancer Sean Seymour, a recent graduate of the University of Michigan, is returning home to North Carolina to perform a special concert for area friends before moving to New York City.
Seymour will perform at 3 p.m. June 8 at Grainger Hill Performing Arts Center, 300 Park Ave., Kinston.
His degree, a bachelor of fine arts in musical theater, is ranked by the Wall Street Journal and many other sources as the nation’s top program of its kind.
Seymour recently finished his senior showcase for casting directors and talent agencies at NYC’s Alvin Ailey Theater and has since been receiving calls from agents and managers of stage, film and television. He hopes to sign with an agency before returning to Kinston May 30. He’s also been auditioning for a few Broadway shows.
“Since I’ve been in school, each summer I’ve worked at a different summer theater,” Seymour said. “Last summer I did an internship with Theater Raleigh, Lauren Kennedy’s professional regional theater in downtown Raleigh. I was her assistant/dance captain on the show ‘Urinetown.’ Lauren is a well-seasoned Broadway actress. I also just played Marius in ‘Les Miz’ at University of Michigan, and worked in leading roles at West Virginia Public Theater, one of the nation’s oldest regional theaters.
He also has performed at the Muny in St. Louis, Mo., the nation’s oldest outdoor theater and will return there this summer before his move to NYC.
Other theater credits include: “Grease” (Eugene), “All Shook Up” (Dennis), “Anything Goes,” “Crazy for You” (Pete, dance captain), “Bat Boy (Swing)” and “Chicago.”
Seymour is the grandson of Becky and Leonard Seymour of Kinston.
Tickets are $8 at the door. More information is available on Seymour’s website, seanmattewseymour.com.
