A concert Saturday at the Vernon Park Mall promises singing, dancing and something for everyone.
The big name is J.Locke, a North Carolina native who has generated interest around the country and on the Web through his musical interpretation of the world in which we live — music that, according to him, moves, teaches and invokes growth.
His debut album “God Sent Me,” by SoundMuzik Group, and his first certified breakout single, “So Alive,” have shown balance between a man finding his ministry in music and his ability to touch people regardless of race or social background.
He was born Almar J. Locke and feels that the music he creates represents himself, so it’s only right to use his real name. He is a hip hop artist, but his music represents a different kind of artistry. He crafts a gospel message, with no cursing, violence, drug references or woman degrading mostly against, he says, what the majority of today’s popular hip hop music stands for.
In the concert, J.Locke will be joined by the United Gospel Choir of Eastern North Carolina, J-Tap and Jennifer Claude. After the concert, all the performers will be available to meet and chat at the Kinston Bible Bookstore, where CDs will be available for purchase and J.Locke’s autograph.
