Feeling lucky? Lenoir Community College will be hosting its third annual Casino Night to benefit student scholarships at LCC from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Jan. 30 in the LCC Culinary Arts building. Tables open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person. This event has been a huge success for the college in recent years, as local “celebrities” have agreed to entertain guests as they try their hand at winning one of several fabulous prizes. This year, eight “celebrity dealers” have agreed to participate in the not-to-be-missed event.
LCC is proud to welcome Lenoir County’s newly elected sheriff, Ronnie Ingram, as a “celebrity dealer” for the evening. Sheriff Ingram says his casino experience is “slim to none,” but that his experience playing pinochle as a kid has more than prepared him for this evening of fun.
Ingram is a Lenoir County native, and he studied business law at LCC. When asked why he chose to be a part of a fundraising event to benefit scholarships for students, he said, “Especially in today’s ever-changing world, education of the local community is so important in addressing job growth.” His two sons are currently pursuing college degrees, and his youngest son is a student at LCC.
Ingram encourages those attending LCC’s Casino Night, “Know when to hold ‘em, and know when to fold ‘em!” He, along with the LCC Foundation and other local celebrities, invites you to enjoy an evening of fun as you support education in Lenoir County.
This year, LCC also welcomes back local “celebrity dealer” Carol Sykes. Sykes has been an avid supporter of the foundation for many years, and she is always great entertainment for the guests who attend.
“I guarantee guests will have fun if they sit at my table for the evening,” she said.
Sykes has been on numerous non-profit boards, including the boards of Lenoir Memorial Hospital and United Way. She is the past president of the Boys and Girls Club and believes “an education is certainly of utmost importance.”
“One who desires to grow should never stop learning,” she said. Sykes is an active member in the local community and has volunteered yearly for the LMH Cheer Corner. Sykes has received the Legacy Award from the Boys and Girls Club in 2007, and received the Apple Award for volunteerism from LMH.
