GOLDSBORO — Wayne Community Concerts is wrapping up its season with a “Superman” performance. Upon seeing Pianafiddle on the concert list, subscription members asked, “Is it bluegrass? Is it jazz? Is it classical?’
The answer is “Yes.” If it’s Pianafiddle, it’s all those musical genres, plus ragtime, old time, blues — you name it. The twosome will prove it Saturday night.
Beginning with a simple, familiar tune, violinist/fiddler Adam DeGraff and pianist Randy Morris improvise as they go. They blend the traditional, unwritten and spontaneous in performances that range literally from Bach to bluegrass.
Each performer is an accomplished concert artist and together they bring a level of technique matched only by their passion and dare-devil, off-the-cuff risk-taking. The duo mystifies audiences, blurs stylistic lines, transcends musical genres and brings energy and humor to each performance.
DeGraff is known around the world as one of the most innovative and dynamic fiddlers of his generation. His experience ranges from classical orchestral musician, concert soloist and chamber musician to pyrotechnic fiddler.
Morris is an instrumentalist, arranger, band leader and entertainer. He exhibits a free-wheeling approach to music, combining a variety of musical styles into a personal sound. His credits include stage musicals, orchestral concerts, television soundtracks, show production for Walt Disney World and other theme parks, and dozens of jazz festivals and cruises throughout the world.
