Entertainment is not something reserved for Hollywood and huge cities. While many people think they must travel hundreds of miles to see great concerts or hear new music, some are realizing that entertainment is right in their backyard.
The Red Room on North Herritage Street is a private Kinston club — $1 for an annual membership — that offers music and a relaxing environment to members and their guests. Local bands and artists are constantly being booked and have diverse styles and backgrounds.
“It reminds people that you don’t have to be a big city to have good local talent,” said Stacey Slager, The Red Room manager.
Alongside his brother and bass player, Jordan Nance, North Carolina native Rob Nance is bringing his talent and original sound to Kinston this Saturday. Nance describes his music as “completely original and self-created music” and encourages people to come out and listen.
Rob Nance heard about the club from Kinston-Greenville area friends and saw the performance as a great opportunity to share his music in Eastern N.C., something he has not had the chance to do so far. Kinston is just one stop of many on his musical journey. In the past year, Nance has performed from Georgia all the way up the coast to New York.
Performing is not the only thing Nance spends his time doing. Drawing from an eclectic blend of influences, Nance has created an album with a close group of friends titled “Lost Souls & Locked Doors.” Though Nance has been performing for years, this is his debut album.
The artist is promoting his music in small clubs and bars like The Red Room, but hopes to expand his horizons this fall.
“I am aiming to get a more serious tour schedule that maybe will take me outside of areas that I’ve played already,” he said.
