The Agnes Moye-Gilchrist Music Scholarship Fund is sponsoring the Moye Ensemble of Washington, D.C.; Maryland; Virginia; and Ohio in a concert at 6:30 p.m. Sunday to support the scholarship fund.
The concert is free and donations are appreciated to increase the fund that presents scholarships to deserving students who have been accepted and enrolled in an accredited college or university to pursue a degree in music/music education.
The fund was established in memory of the late Agnes Moye-Gilchrist, a formally trained musician who served schools and church congregations for more than 65 years. She was a musician in Kinston, Washington, D.C., and Chicago playing organ, piano and directing choirs and choruses.
The ensemble, based in D.C., was founded in 1965 with 15 members by Ulysses G. Moye II. Today, Moye directs the group of about 40 members. The inter-denominational group represents Baptist, Catholic, Methodist, Episcopal and Holiness faiths seeking to sing and to minister.
Moye is a music graduate of Howard University in D.C.
Donations can be made at the concert through an offering or by contacting Walkili Moye at 252-624-2933 or Joan Bannerman at 252-523-0074.
