Lonesome River Band will take part in bluegrass event

For more than 30 years, Lonesome River Band has set the standard in the bluegrass music world as they tour extensively throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Whether performing on the Late Show with David Letterman or hitting the famous stage of the Grand Ole Opry, their loyal fans continue to praise them as one of the most loved and influential acts of our time.


Lonesome River Band will perform Friday, Feb. 20 at the Neuse River Music Festival to be held at Lenoir Community College located at 231 N.C. 58 South in Kinston. The two-day event runs through Saturday, Feb. 21 and also features performances by Rhonda Vincent & the Rage, Moe Bandy, Al Batten & the Bluegrass Reunion, Marty Raybon, Malpass Brothers, Grass Cats, and Samantha Casey & the Bluegrass Jam. Country Music Hall of Famer and multi-award winning banjo picker, Sammy Shelor, has assembled a wealth of talent that includes Brandon Rickman, Mike Hartgrove, Barry Reed, and Randy Jones; all performing the distinctive LRB sound that fans adore.


Lonesome River Band’s enduring career includes 17 albums, three of which were released in 2012 in celebration of the group’s 30th anniversary. The band has a multitude of awards and recognitions including numerous IBMA Awards for Album of the Year, Instrumental Recorded Event of the Year, and Sammy Shelor for his five Banjo Player of the Year Awards.


This stellar group has been seen on high-profile national TV shows like The Late Show with David Letterman where Sammy Shelor was honored with the 2nd Annual Steve Martin Prize for Excellence in Banjo and Bluegrass Award. They sat down to chat with Letterman and performed with special guest Steve Martin. Recently, Sammy Shelor returned to the show, performing with country superstar Alan Jackson.


Lonesome River Band is celebrating their current album, Turn On A Dime, released on Mountain Home Music Company. The first single from the album, “Her Love Won’t Turn On A Dime” appeared in the No. 1 spot six times on the Bluegrass Today Top 20 Song Chart since its release.
